I can not grow old in Salem's Lot

Last weekend a good friend of mine’s band Operation Rolling Thunder, (classic history nerds I know,) was playing at the local rock band competition and lucky me got asked to be the band photographer. Backstage pass for a night of rock and roll? Hello… An amazing night and I’m proud to say I think I may have been witnessing future stars. Hopefully they’ll get onto YouTube soon.
The outfit for the evening was a fluro printed Jorge dress, Brown leather Loren jacket and vintage Manolo boots, (not that you can see them!) sadly, since I was busy taking photos the only thing you can see is my jacket haha. Need to make sure that you're not too busy capturing other peoples kidak moments to make your own.
So summer has finally arrived in New Zealand, touch wood. Missed my tutor class yesterday and we rocked on out to the beach. Yes, it was wrong and I have learnt my lesson from my wee sunburn today. But it was only study that I missed and in the grand scheme of things I believe that getting back to nature and soaking up some vitamin D is better for the soul than doing exam prep. Let’s be honest, you would do the same thing. You know you would. It is what it is.
So new term, new obsessions for me ha-ha. Quite a lot I am in love with currently. One would most definitely be orange lipstick. Fully in love with Mac Morange and it has the cutest name! Also nursing my obsession with leopard print, especially my new hot pink hair extension. A little tacky, yes. But sometimes you just need to be a bit tacky and have fun. Vintage blouse in the photos, my best friends mother found it in a market in the 80’s and when my friend didn’t like it she passed it down to me. Clothes swapping=true sign of best mates right there.

If it's a fatal flaw, it will kill you

So Guess who didn't have to work this weekend? Thanks to good old Mother Nature caused a freak snow storm, yes I am aware it is the middle of spring, apparently nature doesn't. Of corse, I absolutly adore snow so I was most definitly not complaining. Spent the day having an epic snow fight that spanned the length of town, atching chicky flicks with my best friend Pip and of corse, taking plenty of photos. Needless to say I was absolutly in love with the weekend, and too make it better i finally found my photos from my trip to New York for my uncle's wedding a while back. The little girl is my adorable neice Freya from England with, I kid you not, the cutest little Pommy accent. I am in love with it. I plan to marry an englishman simply so my children have pommy accents. I feel this is a sutible plan. The outfit for my snow day was Guess Skinny Jeans in Dark Indigo, Jeanswest Cobalt Jersey, Hot Pink Scarf from a market in Dubai, Boots from Nine Shoes and Hooded Coat by Ezzue. Hoping for more snow, but we cant have our cake and eat it to. Am going on a photgraphy mish tomorow, my friend found an old street sign out in the countrey that says "Love is logic's fatal flaw," I plan to take photos of this amazing-sounding signage. Whoever made it seems very deep, however they forgot one thing, If it's a fatal flaw, it will kill you.

“Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and calm, but willing to draw blood in its defense.”

Firstly, on Saturday night there was a 7.1 earthquake in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. My hearts go out to you Christchurch and hope all your house repair as fast as possible.

However, on a happy note, finished my photography piece that I've been working on at the moment. Unfortunately I couldn't get it in the right order on here. Sigh. Oh well, life goes on. Thank goodness I've finally finished because I really should start studying for exams. Basically, my inspiration was finding the beauty in the most subtle ways. My best friend Laura, who is my ah-mah-zing model, and I spent the day walking around Invercargill and took photos of anything that took our fancy. Basically the journey goes from an old, dis-used warehouse, to a run down cemetery to my catholic church which was nearly empty at 6pm on a Tuesday. I was lucky enough to have some gorgeous weather and sunlight for New Zealand in early September. I love the factory photos, the black scribble against the stark white wall looks brilliant, and I adore Laura's pose. The hunched up knees with her arms around them looks so protected and vulnerable contrasts with the hardness of the background. And the dog that we worked with actually happened to be a random uni student who was walking our puppy passed where we were shooting. Luckily for us she was really great about it, I ended up photographing her for about 20 minutes. I still don't actually know her name, But she is an amazing person! The lighting and colours in the church were particularly vibrant that day, especially on the window so it really stands out. As I said before, I was incredibly with the sunlight for the entire shoot and happened to be in the right places in the right time! Overall, I think this piece made me appreciate where I live a lot more than I did previously. I discovered, much to my surprise there is an amazing amount of beauty. But of course, there is beauty in everything now isn't there? “Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and calm, but willing to draw blood in its defense.”

Don't ever let any one tell you you're not beautiful

So, lately I've been thinking about self image. Recently a friend of mine, who I think is beautiful, had a crisis of faith I supose you could say. And I know the whole body image topic has been done to death. But I'm still confused. It seems to me that there's just too much hate in this world and it's not even all about apperence anymore. Go onto sixbillionsecrets.com, (my secret little addiction,) and how many of the posts are happy, or even just generally positive? Not that many...everyone is busy telling everyone else to love themselves and believe, why can't we take out own advice? Everywhere you look there are obstacles put in place. The true measure of a person is not being a size 0, not how many guys ask for their phone number, not even how many people adore them. The true measure is how much you love yourself. Love yourself. Please do. Someone out there thinks the sun rises and falls around you. Maybe I don't know you, or the person that thinks that about you, but I know they're right. I know it hurts sometimes, but theres always someone there whos willing to risk their life to catch you. You are going to do great things.

Dont ever let anyone tell you you're not beautiful, cause to me you're a supermodel.

Sophia.
